Marketing and Communications Team Leader

General Description:

The Marketing and Communications Team Leader will be responsible for leading the Marketing and Communications Team in all their activities, including the planning and execution of Wild Campus’ annual community celebration of native wildlife, Wild Family Day.

Responsibilities of all Team Leaders:

  • Member of Executive Committee (1 hour weekly meeting).
  • Interview and choose your Team Members.
  • Serve as liaison with your team’s Advisors.
  • Represent your team at Executive Committee meetings—especially in communicating any problems your team may be having—and disseminate any information from the Executive Committee meetings to your Team Members.
  • Organize weekly team meetings and attempt to include everyone if possible.
  • Outline an Action Plan (template provided) for your team for the year and set the dates for the deadlines of the tasks outlined in your team’s Action Plan.
  • Enforce the deadlines that you have set, as well as any set by your Director.
  • Understand the importance of delegation of work and actively delegate; you should all be bearing an equal share of the workload.
  • Manage team expenses and handle all purchases/reimbursements in coordination with the Finance and Fundraising Director.
  • Maintain organized digital documentation of your team’s activities as well as resources used during the year and regularly load them to the Smartsite.
  • Maintain list of people that your team encounters to further expand Wild Campus’ network using the template provided in the Wild Torch document.
  • Send a detailed update about your team’s activities to the Communication Coordinator every other Thursday by 5 pm.
  • Coordinate with the Photographer about any activities that may result in a good photo, with a minimum of two photo-documented team activities by the end of the year (more is better).
  • Familiarize yourself with all of your Team Members’ various duties, and regularly check in on their progress and provide feedback (mostly positive).
  • Put all of your Team Members’ deadlines in your calendar and send reminders to them as the deadlines approach.

Responsibilities of the Marketing and Communications Team Leader:

  • Lead the Marketing and Communications Team Members in the successful marketing and communication of the Wild Campus organization’s image in a cohesive and effective manner, by ensuring deadlines are achieved.
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications Advisor(s) and your team to decide on overall messages for the year.

Qualifications:

  • Highly organized.
  • Strong communication and networking abilities.
  • Strong writer (mostly for revising your Team Member’s work).
  • Strong ability to delegate tasks and enforce deadlines.
  • Able to provide positive feedback regularly, and constructive criticism when necessary.
  • A genuine aspiration to change the world for the better.
  • A belief that individuals can make a difference, and that the difference is worth the effort.
  • Punctual and reliable.
  • Actively seeks help from more knowledgeable sources and/or fellow members.


Timeline:

Fall Quarter:

  • Meet with the Wild Ambassador Director to discuss the upcoming year’s activities.
  • Meet with Advisor(s) and discuss the upcoming year’s activities.
  • Interview and select Team Members to be brought on in mid Fall Quarter.
  • Attend Orientation Meeting and welcome your Team Members to Wild Campus. Be sure to set up first meeting with Team Members for as soon as possible after Orientation.
  • Hold first meeting and create meeting schedule for rest of quarter.
  • Meet with the Marketing and Communications Advisor(s) to decide on overall messages for the year.
  • Continue scheduling and holding weekly meetings to check in on the progress of each of your Team Member’s various projects. Take notes so you can give an update at the next Executive Committee Meeting.

Winter Quarter:

  • Continue scheduling and holding weekly meetings to ensure proper progress is being made by your Team Members.

Spring Quarter:

  • Continue scheduling and holding weekly meetings to ensure proper progress is being made by your Team Members.
  • Coordinate with the Marketing and Publicity Coordinator about the execution of the Wild Family Day publicity plan (help them find members of your team to volunteer to put up fliers, give them to schools, etc.)
  • Turn in Wild Torch document (template provided) as your team’s final project.
